Organizational Position – Business Administrator

This is an opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual who wants to be collaborative and take initiative in developing and implementing systems that increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Parent Talk’s small, but mighty team. This is a part-time position (approximately 8-15 hours a week) reporting directly to the Executive Director and employees work remotely, with a virtual office.

The Business Administrator works with a team of volunteers and one other paid staff person. He/She oversees the administrative operations of the organization.

Leadership Board

  • In what capacities (if any) has the nominee volunteered for Parent Talk in the past?
  • Does the nominee have any relevant experience either with Parent Talk or with organizations outside of Parent Talk?

Open Board Positions

Playspace Coordinator

This individual in this role is responsible for overseeing the operation of our indoor playspace at the Caryl School in Dover. This includes managing the cleaning service, scheduling parties, purchasing new toys/equipment as necessary, and reporting to the board each month on status of attendance and use of this space. 

Community Relations Chair

The CRC is a passionate advocate that wants to create opportunities for the Parent Talk membership to give back and be engaged with a creating a sense of community. The CRC oversees Parent Talk’s community outreach activities in the greater Needham area as well as the social and affinity groups, such as the Parent Talk Playgroups, book club, and mom’s nights out. The role is responsible for replacing volunteer leaders of these groups and responding to member requests to start new play groups. The CRC is Parent Talk’s liaison with local charities and is responsible for overseeing the charitable donations from the semi-annual Used Clothing, Toy & Equipment Sales, Project Night Night, adopting a family during holiday times, etc.

Fundraising Chair

Parent Talk is looking for an individual to manage relations with local businesses and community sponsors in order to raise funds or secure in-kind donations to support various Parent Talk programming. The Fundraising Chair heads up our retail discount program, where  local businesses provide discount as benefits for Parent Talk members. In addition, the Chair is responsible for identifying potential fundraising opportunities and bringing those proposals to the Board of Directors. 

Community Relations

Community Relations Committee

The Community Relations Committee oversees and coordinates our community outreach efforts, eg. Thanksgiving meal deliveries, holiday toy drives, food drives, baskets of toiletries for women’s shelters, Project Night-Night, and inter-generational events at local nursing homes.

Events

Events Committee
The Events Committee plans and runs monthly events for children and families. Past favorites have included Barn Babies, puppet shows, backyard playdates, daytrips to a farm and various other family friendly outings.

At this time, we are seeking volunteer(s) for the following:

Member Events Co-Chair
The Chair(s) decides which free and reduced-rate child and parent events will be planned for the year, supervises, organizes and runs those events with the support of a committee. Events are balanced to meet the needs of the various ages, locations, interests and needs of Parent Talk’s membership base. This position works closely coordinating events with other committees, including, but not limited to, Fundraising and the Playspace. The Chair(s) is responsible for tracking member interest in events and adjusting events accordingly.

Fundraising

The Fundraising Committee works as part of a team to brainstorm fundraising efforts. Contacts local businesses to solicit in-kind or gift card donations (e.g., food for events or gift cards for supplies or raffle items). Helps to pick up donations directly from local businesses. Writes thank you notes. Estimated time commitment is 1-2 hours per month on average.

Lecture

Lecture Committee

The Lecture Committee plans and runs the lecture series which features speakers who educate members and non-members on topics relevant to early childhood development and parenting.

At this time, we are seeking volunteer(s) for the following:

Lecture Coordinator(s)
Assist lecture chair with planning and execution of 4 annual lectures. Duties may include registration, blog posts, event marketing and program design. Estimated time commitment 2-4 hours per quarter.

Marketing

Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee  (write up for Marketing Committee?)

At this time, we are seeking volunteer(s) for the following:

Lawn Sign and Flyer Coordinator(s)
Maintains and manages the distribution of flyers and lawn signs. Supports the Marketing Chair and the committee to ensure which events and which geographies are covered. Estimated time commitment 1-2 hours for ongoing events; approximately every two months (flyers most often).

Lawn Sign and Flyer Committee Members
Copies and distributes Parent Talk marketing promotional materials. The committee works closely with the Coordinator. Estimated time commitment +/- 30 minutes monthly for flyers and quarterly for lawn signs.

Social Media Committee Member(s)
Focus on supporting Parent Talk events beyond Facebook through twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, google, targeted marketing. Committee would report to Social Media Coordinator and Marketing Chair.

Membership

Membership Committee

At this time, we are seeking volunteer(s) for the following:

Membership Discounts Coordinator
Conducts annual phone check-ins with local businesses offering member discounts, fields new discount offers in coordination with membership chair. Estimated time commitment 1-2 hours per month.
